 Paul dari Phylum Mollusca

Assalamualaikum, salam kampus,

Herm.. hari ni teman start cari bahan tuk assignment JIB 116: Animal Diversity. Tajuk die "The economic importance of Mollusca to humans". Herm memule teman kene paham dulu, apa itu "mollusca". So teman pon tanya pakcik google. so berikut ade sedikit info mengenai mollusca;

Menurut wikipedia,

The Mollusca, common name molluscs or mollusks,is a large phylum of invertebrate animals. There are around 85,000 recognized extant species of molluscs. This is the largest marine phylum, comprising about 23% of all the named marine organisms. Numerous molluscs also live in freshwater and terrestrial habitats. Molluscs are highly diverse, not only in size and in anatomical structure, but also in behaviour and in habitat.

The phylum Mollusca is typically divided into nine or ten taxonomic classes, of which two are extinct. The gastropods (snails and slugs) include by far the most classified species, accounting for 80% of the total. Cephalopod molluscs such as squid, cuttlefish and octopus are among the most neurologically advanced invertebrates. Either the giant squid or the colossal squid is the largest known species of animal without a backbone.

The two most universal features of the body structure of molluscs are a mantle with a significant cavity used for breathing and excretion, and the organization of the nervous system. Because of the great range of anatomical diversity, many textbooks base their descriptions on a hypothetical "generalized mollusc", with features common to many but not all classes within the Mollusca.

Menurut University of California Museum of Palentology

Mollusca is one of the most diverse groups of animals on the planet, with at least 50,000 living species (and more likely around 200,000). It includes such familiar organisms as snails, octopuses, squid, clams, scallops, oysters, and chitons. Mollusca also includes some lesser known groups like the monoplacophorans, a group once thought to be extinct for millions of years until one was found in 1952 in the deep ocean off the coast of Costa Rica.

Molluscs are a clade of organisms that all have soft bodies which typically have a "head" and a "foot" region. Often their bodies are covered by a hard exoskeleton, as in the shells of snails and clams or the plates of chitons.

A part of almost every ecosystem in the world, molluscs are extremely important members of many ecological communities. They range in distribution from terrestrial mountain tops to the hot vents and cold seeps of the deep sea, and range in size from 20-meter-long giant squid to microscopic aplacophorans, a millimeter or less in length, that live between sand grains.

Menurut Buku Intergrated Principles Of Zoology (Fourteenth Edition)

Mollusca (Mol-lus'ka) (L. molluscus, soft) is one of the largest animal phyla after arthropoda. There are over 90,000 living species and some 70,000 fossil species. Mollusca are coelomate lophotrochozoan protosomes, and such they develop via spiral mosaic cleavage and make coelom by schizocoely. The ancestral larval stage is a trochophore but development is variously modified within the classes.

The name Mollusca indicates one of their distinctive characteristics, a soft body. This bery diverse group includes chintons, tusk shell, snails, slugs, nudilbranchs, sea butterflies, clams, mussel, oysters, squids, octopuses and nautiluses. The group ranges from faily simple organisms to some of the most complex if invertebrates; sizes range from almost microscopic to the giant squid Archituethis.

So setelah mencari dan membaca bahan-bahan diatas, paham le udah teman ape itu mollusca. Sekarang ni teman kene cari The economic importance of mollusca to humans... Teman dah dapat list beberapa kepentingan dari segi ekonomi kepada manusia..tp betul ke idok.. teman tak tahu la plak... meh kite tengok

antaranya ialah:

1. sumber makanan
2. sumber perhiasan diri/rumah
3. sumber pertukaran matawang

so teman hurai la sumber2 ini dalam konteks sumbangannye kepada ekonomi manusia. senang je kan?

salam kampus.

  4. lets make discussion about our PB..characteristic and classification phylum mollusca

as we know mollusca is second largest phylum after anthropods (latin: molluscus; means: soft). They found in seas, deep sea, ponds, lakes, rivers, mudflat and terrestrial, the body covered with mantle which protecting the soft parts inside body. mantle cavity is house of gills, have coelum which area around heart and mollusca is billateral symmetry...drop your comment here... ^_^
